Lodz is an extremely inspiring place and one of the most „street art” and artistic cities in Europe and in the whole world. You can find here works of the most famous artists from around the world! The first of the “must see” points of the program will be Lodz’s street art , which you will learn during creative workshops  under the watchful eye of specialists. There will be plenty of interesting stories about 19th century Lodz, Manufaktura, and the movie industry.

For many years, Łodz has focused on culture – after all, artistic (mainly movie making industry) traditions have been strong here for a long time. No wonder that the former heat and power plant located right next to the train station was turned into a modern science and culture centre. ON THE ARCHITECTURE AND STREET ART TRAIL

Lodz is a city of eclectic tenement houses and factories. What draws the attention of tourists visiting Lodz is the variety of architectural details. Art Nouveau, Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque tenement houses  highlight not only the aorta of Lodz – Piotrkowska Street, but also its arteries-streets. The beautiful tenement houses of Lodz reflect its golden age of the industrial era. It lets us feel like in the frames of “The Promised Land” and  discover the fascinating history of Lodz through architecture. Another hallmark is the art decorating the streets of Lodz, i.e. urban street art, created by the world’s most famous artists.  All the  stories about how it all started  will be introduced by our passionate guide.

CREATIVE WORKSHOPS – WE CREATE OUR OWN ART

Why not get to know the city through the prism of two of the most characteristic phenomena? We mean the combination of architectural details (from well-known buildings in Lodz) with the template technique of creating street art. By creating a detailed  template, the participants will “enliven” the architecture and help it appear in a refreshed form in the urban space. Graffiti does not have to be something bad, free your creativity. For the implementation of the project, we will use photos with examples of Lodz architecture, which will be an inspiration to create templates and tell the history of the city. Workshop participants do not need to have advanced artistic skills to create templates. The most important thing will be to observe architecture and the richness of its forms. The templates will be used to transfer the pattern to the paving slabs of the Old Market Square by means of spray paints that will not damage the surface (they disappear under the influence of weather conditions). It will be creative, interesting and ecological.

ON PIOTRKOWSKA STREET

It is impossible to list all the historic buildings on this street. Although many of them have disappeared over the years, what is left is one of the most beautiful urban historic complexes in the country. Free time for lunch in one of the many restaurants. Undoubtedly, an interesting place for a meal will be OFF-Piotrkowska, where food trucks have parked, with a diverse culinary assortment. For those who like traditional bars, there are numerous bistros and restaurants. During the walk, you will probably come across the Avenue of Stars, and we will take you to the Rose Passage – the gate of the tenement house that hides an unusual place. You will see walls covered with pieces of broken glass. Rose Passage is an artistic project of Joanna Rajkowska (known for example from the famous “Palma” on Aleje Jerozolimskie in Warsaw).

CREATIVE VISIT TO A FORMER TEXTILE PRINTING HOUSE

After lunch we will head to the Factory Museum, located in the revitalised post-factory buildings of the former textile printing house. During an interesting tour of the exhibitions in the building, you will learn about the history of this unique place and what the textile industry meant to Lodz. From the terrace of the museum, you will be able to admire the entire complex of post-factory buildings of the ‘Manufaktura’.

There is no better way to learn than by experiencing. At the end of your visit, you will participate in creative workshop focusing on the subject of textile finishing. Participants will design a pattern according to which they will make a stamp for printing a piece of cotton fabric. After this workshop, you will be able to make an original pattern on a T-shirt or cotton bag and feel like a real designer!
